What’s Shop Pay?

Shopify’s 2017 introduction of Shoppay is Shopify’s accelerated checkout solution Shopify Shoppay. The payment information is securely stored on the store’s checkout page. It then autofills it when customers return. This makes it possible to make purchases faster and saves you the time of entering billing information and other details.

ShopPay saves the following payment details

  • Email address

  • Shipping information such as the address of the customer

  • Billing information such as customer’s address

  • Details of your credit card, including the card number, CVV Code and expiration date (all data is encrypted).

Shop Pay saves customers time and allows merchants to expand their shipping options with local delivery or pickup. Shop Pay can also be used by sellers to accept payments via other channels, such as Google, Facebook, or Instagram.

Shop Pay: How does it work?

ShopPay encrypts all payment information stored on its PCI compliant servers. This information is only required once by customers. The solution will automatically fill it in for them on all subsequent visits. ShopPay allows customers to shop online with one click. This convenience can be a great incentive for customers to buy more.

ShopPay vs. Shopify Payments

Although the names may sound similar, Shop Pay and Shopify payments are not the same thing. Shopify Payments, also known as a payment processor or service that allows businesses and customers to make payments, is the key difference.

PayPal, Stripe and Square are all other payment processors. So that you can collect money from customers, it is important to have at least one payment processor on your website.

Shop Pay, on the other hand is a payment processing tool. Shop Pay is more of an add-on than a necessary component that will make your experience easier and smoother once you have your payment processor set up. ShopPay acts as a digital wallet and stores customer information to facilitate fast checkout. It also offers other perks. Apple Pay and Google Pay are two other digital wallets.

The Shopify store can show the differences.

Shopify Payments will automatically be used by customers if you have Shopify Payments installed in your store. It will appear as the standard Pay Now or Checkout button.

ShopPay will appear as a separate button. This button will often appear as an “Express checkout”, option along with other payment processors and digital wallets.
